Many people today are afraid to dream, they won’t allow themselves to be all they could be because they are lacking the confidence to really “go for it”. Life has suppressed their enthusiasm. In our profession we don’t have anybody in a position of authority or a boss watching over us to whom we are accountable. I have seen some folks “driven” by circumstances like being broke which drove them to be successful. There are many “rags to riches” stories out there. However the majority of people start a business on a part time basis while still employed full time in a job. They aren’t quite so needy as to be driven to succeed. I have seen people driven because they really dislike what they do for a living. This was certainly the case in the beginning for me. I wanted to be my own boss and not have to answer to anybody. That dream “drove” me to do things many others won’t do.

I called everybody I knew; I traveled 12 hours one way to give two people a presentation. (This was before the internet and they both turned me down.)

I had hundreds of people turn me down, but a few said yes and in 12 to 28 months I was earning a comfortable income from home.

I had a dream of being free and I was willing to do whatever it took to build my business to the point it would support my family. I was “hungry”. That was 14 years ago now.

Everybody faces obstacles; not enough time, unsupportive family, lack of funds, inexperience, lack of a mentor or coach, lack of quality contacts to name a few. In fact every successful person I know in our business has faced some of these. However, it didn’t stop them from accomplishing what they set out to do. That is because they had a dream, a burning ambition that drove them to overcome.

Having a clear vision of what it is that you want is a basic requirement of leadership. In a home business opportunity only leaders are well paid. Anybody can earn a few hundred or even a few thousand dollars a month, but, if you want total financial freedom, one must become a leader and attract other leaders to the business. That is reality. For some there can be a fair amount of personal growth required before others will consider them to be a leader and be attracted to their team. Once again if the dream is big enough the facts don’t count, they will grow and become leaders.

The very best way that I have found to grow my own leadership qualities is to get around people that are already leading many others and study what they do. In my own experience the most important quality I have seen in the leaders that have blessed me with their mentoring was their ambition to be more everyday and work hard towards their goals, their dreams, their vision for their lives. They are enthusiastic about their potential and what they are doing. Why would anybody follow someone who wasn’t enthusiastic?

One of a leader’s main tasks is to learn how to share their vision with others in a way that empowers them to build their own vision or join the leader’s vision.

Let me try to explain.

My parents divorced in the mid sixties. I lived with Mom who had to go to work to support my brother and I. Thus I became a “latch-key” kid as Mom worked many hours every week. In those times, in our neighborhood, I was actually the only kid I knew that came from a broken home. Mom made great money as a salesperson but wasn’t around much to do the things Moms like to do as she was always working.

Today, part of my overall vision in my own home business opportunity is to help single Moms be there and spend quality times with their children without the strains of working a job of so many hours like my Mom did. I look for them and do all I can to help them.

Part of my desire to earn a significant income is to be able to reward those single Moms who are at the beginning stages of success with a pre-paid ticket to my little piece of paradise and spend five or six days with them, nurturing their dreams, taking them Killer Whale watching, salmon fishing, Bald Eagle watching and even seeing a few grizzly bears from a distance. (I live on North Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia.) Mostly I want to help build their own self-confidence that they can achieve their own freedom income as well.

Because of my past, this is a deep seated vision and one many on my team want to help me achieve.

I have other dreams as well but they are all part of a larger vision I am creating for our family and those on my team.

Think about it, in reality where we have a solid relationship (friendship) is where we feel most comfortable to be.

There are many purchases we make that we are simply looking for the best deal. This is why the WalMarts of this world flourish.

Now, if part of what we are marketing is a home business opportunity, how much more important is that relationship?

Well, in my opinion, based on many years of full time experience in my industry, the trust and respect built in a relationship IS everything. Think about it, would you invest your time and money in a business with somebody you don’t respect? I don’t think so.

In the Network Marketing industry our sponsor and support team play a critical role in our success, especially for newcomers. Those relationships need to be solid and built upon respect. A good sponsor or upline support member can really make the difference in how fast one learns the fundamentals and they can be the most important element in attracting strong candidates to the business.

When I decided to join one company back in 2001, I did my research and interviewed several people to find somebody that I believed would be a great sponsor. I knew I would need a lot of their help so I took my time to make sure I would be working with somebody that shared similar values and beliefs. That was a wise decision on my part because Carole has been a true blessing, helping me achieve my own freedom income, supporting me through the ups and downs that any successful person must overcome, and just being a friend that I know I can count upon when needed.

That is a powerful part of what we do and it’s all based upon nurturing a solid relationship. Ours is a people business even though it’s based on products flowing throughout the network. We attract new people to the products and the business itself because we are able to build good rapport with them and share a message of hope that they too can earn their own financial freedom in a home based business.
